Abnormal Pincer-Type Carbenes for Functionalization of Hydrocarbons Dmitri G. Goussev, Department of Chemistry, Wilfrid Laurier University, Continued work on this project resulted in the development of efficient methods for the preparation of new ligand systems, phosphinite (1) and aminophosphine (2), for pyridylidene pincer complexes: Investigation of coordination chemistry of 1 afforded a series of nickel complexes. Instability of 1 in protic solvents (water and alcohols) presents a significant practical problem, whereas the water-stable aminophosphine 2 is a very attractive candidate for further work. A reaction of 2 with [RuCl2(p-cymene)] cleanly afforded a novel pyridylidene complex. Investigation of coordination chemistry of 2 is currently underway.
