Get Your Head in the Game Preparing for the SAGE Assessment Disclaimer: The SAGE test is just one assessment schools use to measure knowledge & progress. It is a benchmark of your learning, but not necessarily an all-inclusive representation of all of your academic abilities. GOAL- DO YOUR BEST! From the end of March through May, students in Utah will be taking end of level, SAGE (Student Assessment of Growth & Excellence) tests in English, Science, & Math. These tests are designed to measure student success & growth. Performance on this test can help you & your teachers evaluate your understanding of Core content & guide instructional practice. Your learning & knowledge will contribute to your success on this test, as well as your effort and test-taking abilities. This presentation has several tips to optimize your SUCCESS on the SAGE!

Optimize Brain Performance On the day of the test, stay calm & focused. Use positive self-talk & affirmations instead of focusing on your stress or lack of confidence. Keep your efforts up throughout all three SAGE assessments.

Before & During the Test: Calm your Amygdala Try these MINDFULNESS strategies throughout the assessment. Take notice of your surroundings/ senses. Take notice of your body sitting in the chair/ body scan. Take notice of your BREATH—take a few deep breaths. Don’t worry or pay attention to anyone else’s progress. Visualize SUCCESS!

During the Test Read the directions completely. Utilize scratch paper to work through problems. Eliminate wrong answers & follow your instinct on the correct choice. Evaluate & plan your time; utilize all time given; don’t rush. Use Mindfulness strategies to stay calm & focused.
