Head of the Executive branch of government President decisions affect the lives of all Americans President receives advice & assistance from the cabinet, a group made up of the heads of the executive departments, VP & other important officials.

Air Force One is one of the most recognizable symbols of the presidency, his travel companions enjoy 4,000 square feet of floor space on three levels. Air Force One includes a medical suite that can function as an operating room, and a doctor is permanently on board. The plane’s two food preparation galleys can feed 100 people at a time.

Election & Terms of Office

Pres. elections held every 4 years 2. Elected by electoral college votes (minimum of 270 EC votes) 3. Pres. cannot serve more than two terms according to the 22 Amendment (4 X 2= 8 yrs, but no longer than 10 altogether)

Vice Presidency

Is the only other member of executive branch VP automatically takes all powers of Pres. if the president dies or leaves office. Same qualifications for the VP as are for the Pres. VP serves as president of the Senate Take part in cabinet meeting and help make important gov. decisions

FUN FACTS There are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the Residence. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 8 staircases, & 3 elevators. There are 28 fireplaces throughout the house [Remember, when Adams moved in there were 39 fireplaces. With modern heating available, not as many were needed when Truman rebuilt the house. The chief usher is in charge of keeping the house in good shape. He has a staff of 90 workers to assist him: maids, butlers, carpenters, plumbers, gardeners, and engineers.

* With five full-time chefs, the White House kitchen is able to serve dinner to as many as 140 guests & hors d'oeuvres to more than 1,000. The kitchen is located in one of the basements. *There is an outdoor swimming pool, a movie theatre, a bowling alley, tennis courts, and a putting green for the first family to enjoy. *More than one million tourists visit the state rooms every year. The White House requires 570 gallons of paint to cover its outside surface.
