Social-Emotional development -Erikson Psychosocial stages each represents a psychological conflict resolved toward the + or - side the more successfully issues are resolved, the more competent a person becomes

Social Development

Erikson’s Psychosocial stages When parenting supports child’s needs, the 1st year leads to feelings of trust in others basic trust - when basic needs are met quality rather than quantity trust in infancy sets the stage for a lifelong expectation that the world will be a good and pleasant place to live next 2 years lead to a sense of personal autonomy resolved favorably when parents provide suitable guidelines and reasonable choices

Food or comfort? Attachment theorists agree with Erikson vs. Freud and the behaviourists: cupboard theory researchers questioned the importance of feeding in attachment Harlow and Zimmerman (1957) evaluated whether feeding or contact comfort was more impt to infant attachment challenged psychological status quo mothers only as food-delivery systems
