Project Comenius group

Our beloved school located in Havířov  Havířov is named after ‘miner‘, in Czech - ‘havíř‘ - the name of the street where our school is located (Komenský = Comenius)

English lesson We have English lessons three times a week. There are various groups of students studying English at different levels.

COMENIUS PROJECT GROUP + OUR TEACHER And now the less important part of our presentation... (the more boring part :D )

´The teacher of nations´ John Amos Comenius 28th March 1592 – 4th November 1670 ´The teacher of nations´

CHILDHOOD Birthplace – Czech Republic, somewhere near Uherský Brod Birthdate – 28th March 1592 When he was 12 his parents died He moved to his aunt in Střelnice where he started to study

STUDIES AND ADULTHOOD In 1608 he started studying Latin school in Prerov. Later he went to university in Herborn and then in Heidelberg (Germany) Then he came back to Prerov and worked as a teacher. Later he was ordained as a priest of Bohemian Brethren and left for Fulnek. In Fulnek he met his first wife, Magdalena Vizovska.

EXILE As a consequence of religious wars (1628) he lost his property. He refused to convert to Catholicism => forced to hide all across Bohemia, then had to escape abroad. Comenius went to Leszno (Poland) where his position of rector of the Brethren's school led to his interest in educational reform. He travelled around Europe, e.g. in 1642 he went to Sweden and was employed in reforming the nation's school system there. He died in Amsterdam, the Netherlands on 4th November 1670.

FAMOUS WORKS He developed a universal system of human knowledge among all men and nations De rerum humanarum emendatione consultatio catholica ( The general advice about correction of human things) Didactica magna (Great Didactic - documents about teaching methodes) Orbis pictus ( a series of textbooks) Janua linguarum reserata (The Gate of Languages Unlocked - about the importance of languages and how to lear them)

Famous quotes „We all stand on a stage of a big world and anything that happens, it touches everyone.“ „Not the children of the rich or of the powerful only, but of all alike, boys and girls, both noble and ignoble, rich and poor, in all cities and towns, villages and hamlets, should be sent to school.“ (We do not guarantee exactness of translation of these quotations) 

...and that‘s all... Bye! Bye!
