Introduction to the SAQ

What is the Short Answer Question - 3 part question aimed at historical thinking skills and connecting skills - 3of these appear on the AP Exam (you have 40 minutes and it is worth 20% of your grade) - Questions are broken into three parts A, B, C and difficulty varies between each part.

Example . DO NOT ANSWER THIS ONE, JUST LET THEM SEE IT - taken from 2016 exam

Example Do not answer this one - taken from 2016 exam

Example Do not answer this one -taken from 2016 exam

Tips for getting the full set of points -Put explanations in your own words and connect your answer back to the prompt. -You MUST be historically accurate. -You choose between writing in bullet points or a paragraph. HOWEVER, YOU MUST WRITE IN A COMPLETE SENTENCE. -Each answer should be between 1-3 sentences. -You do not HAVE to answer in the order the questions go (ex: you could answer b,a,c).

Let’s Try!! Answer part A, B and C a. Identify one crop or livestock that were introduced by the Spanish in the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries. b. Briefly explain how ONE of the examples from Part A changed work or trade in the Americas. c. Briefly explain ONE long-term result of the change explained in Part B on American Indians.
