Earth Science 11 FINAL PROJECT!

The Final Project Final Project = Final Exam Your task: To choose a natural site or location on Earth, and create a report that describes its past, present and future geologic history.

STEP 1 Decide on a site: Choose a place: -you have been, -you want to go to, -you think is awesome!

Step 1: Choosing a Site Choose a site on Earth that you are interested in. It could be a small feature (like a cliff face or hot springs), a medium feature (like a volcano or city) or a large feature (like an island or group of islands or an ocean). If you choose something interesting (maybe somewhere you have been or would like to go), it will be easier and more fun to complete this project. Be aware that there will be more information available for well know sites or places. If you choose a lesser known site, it may be more difficult to find information. Your teacher must approve of your choice before you start work.

STEP 2 Step 2: Finding Resources You need to find at least 5 sources of information about your site. These can include: websites, books, magazines, personal photos and information. You must use a minimum of 3 sources for your project. ____________________________________________________

STEP 3 Step 3: Researching your Site Using the resources you gathered in step 2, begin answering the questions about your site. Be sure to answer each question in your own words. Do not copy from your sources. You will need to use the research template provide to help you write your answers.*

Past History Tectonic History Present Conditions Erosion Which tectonic plate is it located on? What plate boundaries are nearby? How have the movements of these plates impacted your site? Present Conditions Erosion What is the climate of this area? (Is it wet, dry, windy etc?) Has this climate changed in the past? (Glaciation?; Dry river bed?; Flooding?) What evidence is there of different erosional forces? (Wind, water, ice, waves, rivers) What type of rocks make up the area? How were these rocks formed? (Think of rock cycle) How have people impacted the area? Future Possibilities Given what you have discovered, what might happen to the site in the future?

STEP 4 Step 4: Building your Presentation Using PowerPoint, or another presentation format, create a presentation to share your findings with the class. Your presentation must include pictures of your site that help you to explain the area. You may present the information to answer the questions orally, written into your presentation or a combination of the two. We would like the presentations to be given to the whole class, but it is not required. You may present to the teacher one on one.
