Presentation transcript:

Interactions between NatureSDIplus and the INSPIRE data specification process INSPIRE Conference, Edinburgh 28th of June Diederik Tirry (NatureSDIplus) Vanda Lima, Paul Smits, Martin Tuchyna & INSPIRE TWG BR/HB/SD (JRC)

Outline Interaction between INSPIRE & NatureSDIplus network Status of the TWG BG/HB/SD regarding the preparation of the data specifications

NatureSDIplus in INSPIRE Support for INSPIRE development process Related themes are: Protected Sites (Annex I) Biogeographical Regions, Habitats and Biotopes, Species Distribution (Annex III) SDIC making available: Submitting relevant reference material -project deliveries and user requirements/use cases Experts as member of TWG BR/HB/SD Significant effort to harmonise project activities with INSPIRE development was present from beginning

NatureSDIplus in INSPIRE Support for INSPIRE implementation process Thematic metadata profile extension - proposal and implementation Testing of INSPIRE data specifications (transformation and application) Deployment of INSPIRE network services Awareness raising Network development

NatureSDIplus in INSPIRE Benefits for NatureSDIplus Inline with EU legislation development and implementation Enlargement of the community network Summary NatureSDIplus proves the importance of the contribution of EU-funded domain-oriented projects On the same time INSPIRE provided framework for the establishment of an SDI within the specific domain community Contribution of NatureSDIplus is very appreciated!!!

Outlook to future Future of NatureSDIplus network INSPIRE Sustainability of the services and tools developed in project Support of stakeholders New project proposals Awareness raising Good & Best practices INSPIRE Development process Participation in Annex II+III TWG activities Testing and consultation of Annex II+III data specifications Implementation process Involvement in maintenance and implementation discussion SDI support on member states level Contribution to monitoring and reporting

Outline Interaction between INSPIRE & NatureSDIplus network Status of the TWG BG/HB/SD regarding the preparation of the data specifications

Annex II/III Roadmap Kick-off: 19-20.04 2010 Data Specification v1 (29.10.2010) Data Specification v2 (06.2011) Testing/Consultation (06-10.2011) Data Specification v3 (02.2012) Draft IR (09.2012) II III IV I II III IV I II III 2010 2011 2012

“The Balance Challenge” Which level of interoperability is “just right”? Simple Complex Too simple: Identified requirements can not be fully supported Limited harmonisation Few benefits Too complex: Difficult to implement Substantial benefits available only to few users High costs 11

Current status Version 2.0 finalized by 15th of June Final decision on scope of themes Finish use cases Elaborate UML model Data quality elements Data set level metadata (Discovery, Evaluation, Use...) Portrayal rules

Consultation and testing Comment and feedback on Data Specification Annex II and III – Draft Guidelines Proposed updates on the GCM D2.9 Guidelines for the use of O&M and SWE standards Transformation testing of application schemas Feasibility testing Fitness for purpose Cost-benefit REPORTS FROM THE TWG BR-HB-SD WEDNESDAY 29th June - 16hr
