Underneath, make the heading “Ghost of Christmas Present Notes”*

The rest of the period… Read Act II, scene iv until “Present” is gone and is replaced by the “Phantom” When you are done, begin extending your notes to cover what we read in class today and yesterday Your notes should focus on how Scrooge affects the other characters in the play (the Cratchits, his nephew and his wife, and the less fortunate people that live in London), secondary character characteristics, how Present is seeking to bring about a change in Scrooge, how Scrooge reacts throughout the whole process, and “Want” and “Ignorance”

Questions you want to answer in your notes…Read Act II, scene iv until “Present” is gone and is replaced by the “Phantom” What does Present sprinkle on people in the streets of London? Why does Bob Cratchit toast Scrooge? How does his wife react? How is Bob’s low salary (his pay from Scrooge) negatively affecting his family? Who might die? What are Scrooge’s words that Present uses against him to help teach him a lesson: “If he be like to die…”? Why does Fred toast to Scrooge? Who/What are the children of mankind that Scrooge meets at the end of Present’s visit

Scrooge Was sent away to boarding school at a young age Had a younger sister named fan who he loved very much and who stood up for him (she died a young woman) Had a fun-loving mentor in Fezziwig, whom he admired Believed he would only deserve a good woman if he became rich first Lost his fiancé because she believed he loved money more than her Now hates Christmas and Love
