This week in Writing we learned: This week in Reading we: “In the Shade” Weekly Newsletter The week of: September 25, 2017 Math Writing Wholes and Parts Missing Addends Decomposing numbers in 3-4 different ways “Counting On” strategy Decomposing numbers by using number bonds. Word problems Throughout the week, students will be sent home with exit tickets. After each lesson, students complete an exit ticket to show their understanding of that day’s lesson. At the top, they will receive a +,check, or -…+ means the student showed full understanding. “Check” means they understood for the most part, and – means they need extra support for Ms. Shade This week in Writing we learned: Building up our Writing Stamina What Fall is/how we can write about it Setting/What is setting? How do I add a setting to my story? How to figure out the beginning, middle and end of a book. What Nonfiction is and how we can be nonfiction authors Word Work with Diagraphs Using our 5 senses to learn about Fall! Difference between thank you letters and apology letters-practice writing various letters for different reasons What a KWL (know, what to learn, learned) Chart is and how it helps us in writing. Reading Extra Info This week in Reading we: Read Where do I live? And a different fall book everyday! Made text-to-self connections to enjoy and understand the story. Used Reading Response Journals Learned about Nonfiction. Practiced comprehension and answering questions about the text. . Referring back to the text to support thinking. Practiced responding to various texts using words. THANK YOU FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND DONATIONS DURING OUR HAWK-A-THON!!!! I am so lucky to have such unbelievable parents!! We did a wonderful oil pastel art project this week. They are hanging in our rooms right now, but will be reunited with their owners after the season is over  email: shadem@issaquah.wednet.edu
