Progressivism, Progressive Movement, Progressive Movements, or Progressive Era?

Origins and Composition Why the first two decades of the twentieth century? What dissatisfactions led to the demands for reform? Primarily urban middle class? Role of Women and Muckrakers?

Principal Objectives Reinvigorating Democracy Greater efficiency/improved use of resources Secure social justice and improve quality of life Curb corporate arrogance

How successful were the Progressives in realizing these objectives? Major pieces of legislation and other reform efforts? Did these efforts conspicuously omit some groups? Was quality of life improved? Government made more efficient? Corporations controlled?
