Psalm 91: Security’s Place, Peace, & Precedent Everyone wants security. Where is yours?

SECURE? June 2016 study by Suffolk Univ. and USA today found….. - 54% feel less secure over last 5-10 years; - only 10% more so 2 million home break-ins per year 2,500 cars stolen per day AND YET…..ROUGHLY 365 TIMES THE BIBLE SAYS “FEAR NOT”

On what do you base your security? “I know karate” Family # of Facebook friends, Twitter followers, awards, etc. Wealth (Revelation 3:17); “because you say I am rich and have need of nothing…and don’t know that you are wretched, poor, blind, naked….. (Why did He say this? A continuation of verse 16….) Government See Matt. 6:24 (can’t serve 2 masters); John 6:27 (don’t work for what perishes); Luke 12:19-20 (I’ve got stuff….I’ll take ease. “You fool….!”)

The Place & Plan Of Security (Psalm 91:1-4) Common contest slogan: “Must be present to win.” The wise man built his house upon the rock (Matt. 7:24-27)

Hide Me Away O Lord Hide me away, O Lord (Hide me away, O Lord) Hide me away, O Lord (Hide me away, O) In the day of trouble 'Neath the shadow of your wings Hide me away, O Lord (Hide me away, O Lord) Give me your peace, O Lord (Give me your peace, O Lord) Give me your peace, O Lord (Give me your peace, O Lord) (chorus) Safe in your dwelling place (Safe in your dwelling place) Safe in your dwelling place (Safe in your dwelling)………..

The Peace Of Security In The Lord (Psalm 91:5-10) “I have held many things in my hands, and have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.” - Martin Luther “If I could hear Christ praying for me in the next room, I would not fear a million enemies. Yet distance makes no difference. He is praying for me.” - Robert Murray McCheyne Songs: Peace, Perfect Peace & Because He Lives (Chorus)

The Protection Of Trusting In The Lord (Psalm 91:11-13) What does it really mean to trust? (active trust) From song, “Trust & Obey” - But we never can prove, the delights of His love, until all on the altar we lay. For the favor He shows, and the joy he bestows, are for those will trust and obey. Vs 11-12: Satan came back to these verses in tempting Jesus Vs. 13: figurative language (and “there, but by the grace of God….”)

“There, but by the grace of God, go I.”

The Precedent For Security In The Lord Psalm 91:14-16 “Precedent”: that which pre-cedes; (COMES BEFORE) Verse 14 – which came first…before security? Man’s reciprocation! “BECAUSE he has loved Me, THEREFORE I will deliver him.” Verse 15-16: “I WILL” (4 times) Song: GOD IS SO GOOD

Security In Actively Trusting In The Lord Unclaimed $$$ from government! (millions per year) January, 2013 reported 58 billion unclaimed ($186 per person)

Matthew 6:31-33 Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
