II. Louisiana Pres. Jefferson bought the Louisiana Territory from Napoleon Doubled the size of the US Gave US complete control of the Mississippi River Farmers could ship their crops to New Orleans for global sale Jefferson suddenly had a loose interpretation of the Constitution

IV. The Southwest Texas Mexican Cession US annexed it after nine years of independence Had belonged to Mexico Mexican Cession Land gained with a treaty that ended the Mexican-American War

V. Trail of Tears Jackson announced policy to move natives to the West Seminoles in Florida resisted Cherokee in Georgia used the courts Both attempts failed Indians in the SE were moved to Indian Territory (OK) on the Trail of Tears (1830s)

VI. Nullification SC used states’ rights to nullify the tariff (VA & KY) Jackson was determined to collect Compromise reduced the tariff over time SC rescinded the nullification but didn’t say nullification was wrong
