Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors A Partnership Dedicated to Radiation Protection National Conference of State Legislators Patrick I Daniels, Chairperson E25 Committee on Radon

National Conference of State Legislatures National Radon Action Plan CRCPD continues to work in support of the Allies and Federal Leaders in Action to Reduce Radon group in support of the effort to expand on the Federal Radon Action Plan and expand on the Radon Leaders Savings Lives work to engage nonprofit and industry allies to lead a strategic effort to amplify, leverage and build upon our joint commitments to achieve greater public health impact. As Janice stated, this effort is to broaden the scope of our risk reduction efforts. We have all seen the benefits from the Federal Radon Action Plan, specifically the increase in multi family housing measurements and mitigations brought about by HUD’s efforts and the number of State Cancer Control Plans adopting radon goals from the efforts of the CDC. Both of these have influenced not only industry but also polices in states all around the country. I would like to thank Janice and the American Lung Association for leading the efforts to develop a National Radon Action Plan. The most critical part to the success of the National Radon Action Plan is you. Yes each and every individual in this room here today. It is people like all of us, government, non-government and industry organizations to put the strategies into action. We have seen many successes by working together but, it will take all of us giving some of out time and talents to broaden the impact of the Plan in all of our states.

Radon Leaders Savings Lives American Association of Radon Scientist and Technologists American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest US Environmental Protection Agency Cancer Survivors Against Radon Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors Citizens For Radioactive Radon Reduction Kansas State University / National Radon Hotline Department of Energy’s Weatherization Assistance Program's National Evaluation CRCPD has been invited to a one day meeting on October 5th at the Department of Energy in Washington, D.C. to discuss the Weatherization Assistance Program's National Evaluation and its findings related to Indoor Air Quality. The meeting will be comprised of a small group of prominent stakeholders representing state weatherization and radon programs. The primary focus of the discussion will be on findings related to radon and the next steps for the Department of Energy on this topic. The timing of this meeting has been planned to afford participants the opportunity to review the evaluations prior to engaging in this discussion. Representatives from the Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency will be on hand to lead the conversation and provide context to the study. Please Note that Paul Francisco, Research Engineer Coordinator from the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be speaking after tomorrow mornings break on Radon and Retrofits. Paul is the primary author of the IAQ study conducted for DOE’s Weatherization Assistance Program evaluation and the Principal Investigator for a study funded by U.S. HUD.
