Science Starter Jarius was traveling to his basketball game at Ranson MS, which is located to the West. If Ranson is 30 km away and it took him 15 minutes to arrive, what would be his velocity? Aryianna is running the 400 meter race at today’s track meet. She and the other runners will move along the track along an oval path. If Aryianna runs the track in 200 seconds, what would be her velocity? Dinanga throws the shotput at a velocity of 10 m/s towards the school. If the shotput travels for 2 seconds, how far did she throw?

Distance – Time Graphs A Distance-Time Graph plots the distance an object travels against time http://www.classzone.com/vpg_ebooks/ml_sci_gr8/accessibility/ml_sci_gr8/page_21.pdf

Hints to remember… In Distance-Time Graphs… Movement can be seen as a rising line on the graph (CONSTANT SPEED) A flat, horizontal line shows when the speed is 0 (AT REST, STOPPED) The steeper the line, the faster the speed. Falling lines indicate decreasing distances Curved lines indicate a change in speed (Acceleration or deceleration)

Let’s practice together…
