Volunteering Volunteering is simple. It’s about choosing to give time to something useful, without getting paid. Helping people Community action and raising awareness Coaching, teaching and leadership Working with the environment or animals Helping a charity or community organisation Think about the 30 hours of Community service = more than 6 months

Physical In short, anything that requires a sustained level of physical energy and involves doing an activity. You are free to do this section independently or as part of a team. Dance Fitness Extreme sports Martial arts Team sports Individual sports Water sports Racquet sports

Skill Ultimately you must be able to prove that you have broadened your understanding and increased your expertise in the chosen skill. Activities can be undertaken on either an individual or group basis. Timeline July 2017: Students introduced to the Award. Given info during assembly. Advised to start asap. Timeline explained. Aim to finish by December 2018 – before U6 Mocks, U6 exams, Coursework Deadlines October 2017: Signed up. Money paid. Confirmed placement. Sections to be completed independently. Registered to eDofE. Students were able to back date at this point any progress at this point. December 2017: Met as a group. Reinforced timeline January - today: Started work on expedition. Continued training sessions for preparation. Monitored eDofE progress April 2018: Practice Expedition June 2018: Assessed Expedition December 2018: Complete the Award.

The Practice Expedition: 27th April to 29th April Friday Arrive at school as normal on the Friday. Bring in expedition rucksack packed. At lunch students will change ready for the expedition. Lunch: final preparations 4pm leave Walk to Cottered Girl Guide Campsite. Set up tents, Cook dinner.

The Practice Expedition: 27th – 29th April Saturday Breakfast Pack up Prepare for day 2 Leave at 9am approx. Walk to Little Wymondley Scout Campsite. Sunday Breakfast, pack up; leave at 9am approx. Walk to Finish Points. Groups will be picked up by mini-bus. Students will hang up tents , return maps, and trangias etc (20 minutes)

Preparation In their groups, students have: Created an aim for the expedition and discussed how they will achieve it. Planned their routes and written detailed route cards. Planned their food for the weekend. Organised responsibilities of food (who is bringing what). Organised tents (hire, numbers, carrying). Organised rucksacks (hire). Practiced basic first aid. Discussed First Aid requirements (all students are required to carry personal first aid).

Thursday 28th June – (expedition starts) Assessed Expedition Wednesday 27th June Thursday 28th June – (expedition starts) Friday 29th June Saturday 30th June

Assessed Expedition Wednesday: Arrive at school at normal time – with packed rucksacks Lunchtime – final preparations and load equipment onto van. Leave at lunch for Peak District Common End Farm Campsite, Ashbourne Set up tents on arrival. Dinner in Ashbourne / Services – (money required)

Assessed Expedition Thursday: Pack down tents, breakfast. Assessed Expedition will start. Final preparations to be made. Day 1: Carsington Water area to Darley Bridge Set up camp; Cook Dinner. Friday Day 2: Darley Bridge to Overhadden Leave Darley Bridge 9am approx. Arrive at Overhadden, set up camp, cook dinner.

Assessed Expedition Saturday Day 3: Overhadden to Curbar Leave at 9am approx. Arrive Curbar 3pm approx. Load van with equipment, leave for home asap. Short stop off at the Services on the way home. Arrival back to Freman Hang up tents Return equipment Ready to collect (20 minutes)
