Indiana College Substance Use Survey Funded by the Indiana Collegiate Action Network Conducted online in Spring 2017 7,227 students from 31 campuses participated (10% response rate) 65% female, 82% White, 7% Hispanic, 77% full-time students, 15% Greek member, 40% under 21 years, 31% over 25 years

Substance Use in Past Month by Age Older students use less ex cigarettes ¾ alcohol vs ½ underage E-Cigarettes younger students Other substances very little diff by age

Substance Use in Past Month by Age Other substances very little diff by age Almost 4% under 21 for hallucinogens Rest around 2-3% except heroin =.4%

Substance Use in Past Month by Gender, 18-25 years old Males more In line with national ex cigs E-cigs almost as common as cigs and cigars among males After tobacco, rx stimulants

Substances Used With Vaping Devices By Gender* - By Age** Most students who have used them (refer to N) used with tobacco 40% of male students used with marijuana and no difference by age for marij *N = 1,597 **N = 2,112

Binge Drinking in Past 2 Weeks Defined as 5/4 1/3 of females and almost 4/10 of males 1/3 of under and 40% of 21+

Past Month Alcohol Use, U.S. This is national data MTF since 1980 1980 – 1995 rates = 75-80% 1995 – 2009 rates = 66-70% Since 2009 dropped to below 2/3 (ex blip in 2012) with lowest rate ever reported in 2013 and has stayed there 63%

Binge Drinking, U.S. Same thing with binge drinking MTF uses 5+ drinks 1980 – 1994 rate = 40-45% 1995- 2008 rate = 39-42% Beginning in 2009 decrease from 37 to 32% 2015 lowest ever
