What is ADEA? ADEA is the nation’s leading national organization for dental education Members include all U.S. and Canadian dental schools and advanced training programs, as well as corporations ADEA is committed to maintaining the integrity of dental education through faculty development and recruitment building partnerships to ensure education funding establishing national networks among educators and students promoting oral health

ADEA Structure

Council of Students (COS)‏ COS is a link between students and educators on a national level COS has 27 seats in the House of Delegates, the policymaking body of ADEA Each dental school is required to send at least one representative to the ADEA annual session and the fall COS interim meeting

Mission of the COS The mission of the ADEA COS is to serve as the national voice and advocate for all students in the dental education community by addressing the issues that shape the present and future of dental education

COS Goals 2007-2010 #1 1. Strengthen communication and collaboration within the Council and between the Council of Students and other ADEA Councils. Increase engagement of students in the Council. -- Ensure that there is an engaged student representative at each school. Meet jointly with other ADEA councils

COS goals 2007-2010 #2 2. Promote academic dental careers as a career pathway for students. Increase applications to the Academic Dental Careers Fellowship Program Increase nominations for the Junior Faculty Award

COS goals 2007-2010 #3 3. Increase recruitment of students from disadvantaged background and underserved areas. Replicate the UCSF high school outreach program in at least 1 school in each region. DENTAL exposure increased by a link being placed on every dental school's web page
