What is a rain forest? A rain forest is a hot, humid, and rainy place where half of the worlds animals live.

Location of Rain Forests The rainforests are located in South America, Australia, Asia, and North America.

Emergent Layer The emergent layer has the tallest trees of the rain forest. The animals that live there are monkeys, Harpy eagles, sloths, bats, butterflies, and parrots.

Canopy Layer The canopy layer is the layer under the emergent layer. It is the tops of the trees. The animals that live there are sakis, howler monkeys, parrots, and bats.

Understory Layer The understory layer is full of butterflies, chameleons, frogs, snakes, and lizards.

Forest Floor The forest floor has fierce animals like jaguars and poisonous frogs. Sometimes animals even look like plants.

Deforestation Deforestation happens when people log, mine for minerals, build cities, and graze cattle.

People of the Rain Forest People in the rainforest have lived there for many years. They also dine on figs from trees.
