What is Science? Science is the study of nature. Science is a way of organizing what we already know and learning more by experiments. Scientists use the scientific method to learn about the world. Science is all about getting answers to questions - Why?  When?   Where?   What?   Who?

The Branches of Science

There are a lot of different branches of science There are a lot of different branches of science. Here are a few of the more common sciences: *Biology is the study of living things. *Zoology is the study of animals. *Botany is the study of plants. *Chemistry is the study of the elements (like carbon) and their compounds (like carbon dioxide). *Geology is the study of rocks and the earth. *Astronomy is the study of stars, planets, moons, and everything in space. *Meteorology is the study of the weather. *Physics is the study of energy - light, sound, heat, electricity, and motion. *Anthropology is the study of humans.

Scientists and their inventions Here are the names of some famous scientists with their inventions. Alexander Graham bell

Thomas Edison

Galileo Galilei

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan

Safety Rules in the Laboratory Do not enter the laboratory without your teacher’s permission. Do not run or eat in the laboratory. Do not touch or taste any chemicals unless otherwise instructed by your teacher. Handle all apparatus and chemicals carefully and correctly. Understand the instructions well given by the teacher before starting any experiment. Notify your teacher if any spills or accidents occur. When your are heating chemicals in a test tube, point the mouth of the test tube away from yourself or your friends.

The people who follow these rules while working in a science laboratory are a

Laboratory Apparatus Many types of apparatus are used for scientific experiments in the laboratory which enable us to carry out experiments successfully. A Bunsen Burner

A Beaker: Test tube:

Measuring cylinder Tripod stand

What do you think are the benefits of science and technology? It allows researchers to learn new ideas that have practical applications. benefits of technology include the ability to create new machines that increase productivity and save lives. Science and technology enable us to grow more food, make our lives more comfortable, communicate faster and farther, move from one place to another and explore outer space.

Abuses and misuse of Science and Technology The generation of electricity using fossil fuels, for example, can lead to pollution which causes harm to human beings and the environment.

This has also been misused by humans which has an example of the creation of deadly weapons which are harmful to us and the environment.

Can you think of some more uses and abuses of Science and Technology?

Thank you
