Equity and Opportunity through Makerspace

Delara Sharma 5th Grade Teacher Pinon Elementary School Santa Fe Public Schools

Why? The Beginning….. Last year Code.org Club; wanted to offer more to students; so introduced Robotics and Osmo Club after school

After-school Clubs Parent and Community Night! This year we served around 80 grade 2-6 students for after school Coding and Robotics Clubs. Community members and parents come to share student accomplishments

We wanted to develop a Space for students to Explore and Create! Idea! We wanted to develop a Space for students to Explore and Create! Lunch Club for students who can’t stay back after school, so we don’t leave out any students who want to be a part.

Lunchtime Makerspace Makerspaces provide hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they deeply engage in science, engineering and tinkering.

Mentoring- Learning to give back to the community 5th grade students at Pinon mentor the 2nd and 3rd grade Coding Club, as well as Kinder and 1st Grade LEGO CLub. They in turn are mentored by students from Mandela School NMSTE students to present at a chapter meeting
