The Story of the “Wild Zoo Adventure” You are taking a field trip to the zoo. You have been given $20.00 to spend while you are here, but spend it wisely because you never know when you might lose some of it. You have just arrived at the South Entrance where you will begin your adventure. The first section of the zoo contains animals that are from Africa! As you pass through each animal exhibit, you will be asked different questions. Answering some questions right might bring you some treats, but answering some questions wrong could cause you to lose some of your money! Get ready for your wild and crazy adventure as you enter the African elephant grassland… Home Page

Game Directions The goal of the game is get through the entire zoo with the most souvenirs and money. Your adventure at the zoo ends at the polar bear exhibit. To play the game you roll the dice and count the yellow footprints and animals as one space each. As you land on an animal, you should click on that animal and answer the question about it. If you get that question right, draw an animal fun card and do as it says, if you get it wrong, you have to draw a money card and do as it says. All players must stop at the space titled “lunch” and pay $5.00 to eat lunch. Keep up with your money and souvenirs on your own piece of paper. To win the game you must to be the player with the most souvenirs and money left at the end of the game. Return

Game Preparation Game board: Print out slide 18 for game board and slide 19 and 20 for game pieces. “Money” Cards: Print out slides 21-23(x2). “Souvenir” Cards: Print out slides 24-26(x2). Oops!! $1.00 fell out of your pocket, subtract that from your total. Oh, no!! You lost $2.00, it must have fell out while you were walking. Subtract $2.00 from your total. Wow! It’s hot! Subtract $1.00 for buying a bottle of water at the gift shop. You were hungry and wanted a snack. Subtract $2.00 for buying some candy.

You were craving a soda, subtract $2.00 for the drink you bought. MONEY CARDS You stopped to feed the fish in the lake, subtract $0.50 for the food you bought. I can’t believe it!! Subtract $1.00 for the money that fell into one of the cages! Your stomach is growling!! Subtract $3.00 for the ice cream you bought. You were craving a soda, subtract $2.00 for the drink you bought.

MONEY CARDS That rock candy looked really good to you! Subtract $0.50 for your sugar addiction. It just keeps getting hotter and hotter! Subtract $1.00 for you bottle of water. Lunch seemed like hours ago! Subtract $2.00 for the snack that you bought. The petting zoo!!!! Subtract $1.00 for the food you bought to feed to the animals.

You’re great at answering questions, add one souvenir to your total! Mountain lions are kind of scary, but that stuffed animal you have is neat! Add one souvenir to your total.

Educational Objectives Audience 3rd grade students Subject Area Objectives Students will be able to add and subtract money by keeping track of it with pencil and paper. Students will answer questions about the different animals in the zoo using their knowledge about these animals.
