Wednesday 10/18/17 Notebook Entry: What does the human body and a car have in common?

Textbook Scavenger Staple the directions to your answers. Make sure you name is on your paper. Turn in! Last day to turn in your Build a Boat Corrections!

System Pre-Assessment Answer only on the left hand side of the page. Turn in when you are finished. Then get your textbook and open to pg. xxii!

How Can Wolves Change Rivers?

Flashlight Demo Input: energy put in (battery) Output: Light energy that comes out We determined that a flashlight is, in fact, a system. It is a group of parts that work together as a whole. I can turn the flashlight on by inputting, or putting in, energy (Flip switch) and by inputting energy I get an output in the form of light. I want you to practice this idea of an input and an output in a system with your own flashlight. Person sitting in this desk (point to desk) pick up the flashlight and practice the input and output. (Flashlights won’t work. They won’t have batteries. Expecting loud student exclamations.) Your flashlights don’t work? How interesting! Why don’t they work? (Expected student answers: they don’t have batteries, the bulb is out, etc.) So you’re saying that something is missing from this system? And that thing that’s missing impacts the whole system? How interesting! Let’s look how different parts of a system might impact the whole system…. 10 minutes

Four Spheres = Earth System Suffix Means = the environment within which a person or thing exists, acts, or operates. Four Spheres = Earth System Atmo = air Geo = earth Bio = life Hydro = water

ATMOSPHERE MOSTLY NITROGEN AND OXYGEN CONTAINS DUST, CLOUDS, WATER WHERE WEATHER AND CLIMATE TAKES PLACE.

HYDROSPHERE All of Earth’s water in liquid, solid, or vapor form. 75% OF EARTH’S SURFACE IS WATER MOSTLY SALT WATER

GEOSPHERE ALMOST ALL OF EARTH’S MASS 3 main parts Core Mantle Crust SOLID ROCK METALS MINERALS

BIOSPHERE LIVING THINGS FOUND IN ALL PARTS OF EARTH REQUIRE WATER TO LIVE

It’s All Connected! CHANGES IN ONE PART OF THE EARTH SYSTEM AFFECT THE OTHER PARTS
