Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer, Ph.D. The Core Values of Pastor Mark #2c – Build People Up instead of putting them down My Brother’s Keeper Part 2 Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer, Ph.D.

This is my Bible. It is the incomparable, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do. I have what it says I have. I choose to live as it calls me to live. I am open and ready to receive from God’s living Word.

I Corinthians 8:1-2

Part One: Review of Pastor Mark’s Core Values

The Core Values at FWC Everyone needs a personal relationship with God (John 3:3). Our Emphasis Biblical authority accurately interpreted and lovingly applied (II Timothy 3:16, II Tim. 2:15). Our Authority Global evangelism – Share Jesus with Everyone (Matthew 28:19-20). Our Mission Relevant worship experience that allows people to connect with God (John 4:23-24) Our Connection The person and the work of the Holy Spirit with His Baptism. (Acts 1:5-8). Our Power and Distinctive

The Core Values of an organization’s leader also greatly influences the organization.

Pastor Mark’s core values he brings into our culture Faith is always positive (so be positive instead of negative) (Hebrews 11:1). Build people up, instead of putting them down (Ephesians 4:29). Foster healthy relationships and people skills (Ephesians 4 et al). The greatest is love and everything must be done with love (I Corinthians 13:13). Unity is a gift from God that we are to preserve since the number one thing God hates is discord. (Prov. 6:16-19).

Review Build People UP

Review- Build People UP Start with changing yourself – your words. Words have the power of life and death- Proverbs 18:21. Ephesians 4:29- Exclusively build people up.

Part One: My Brother’s Keeper

We are called by God to be our brother’s keeper, to truly care, help and seek the best for others.

Part Two: My Brother’s Builder

My Brother’s Builder In a wounding world… we are called to heal. I Thessalonians 5:11My Brother’s Builder (Encourage and Build Up) Romans 14:19 Building up is what you should pursue in life. Ephesians 4:12 Build the church body. 1 Corinthians 14:26 Build up people in everything at church.

My Brother’s Builder I Thessalonians 5:11My Brother’s Builder Romans 14:19 Building up is what you should pursue in life. Ephesians 4:12 Build the church body. 1 Corinthians 14:26 Build up people in everything at church.

Part Three: My Brother’s Starting Block

A Problem at Corinth… A city of idols and idol worship. Meat sacrificed to idols was norm. Often associated with prostitution. Those who knew idols are nothing weren’t bothered by eating the meat from markets.

A Problem at Corinth… New, sensitive or for whatever reason, some wrongly associated it with ungodly practices and it caused them to stumble. Paul answers their question… “Now concerning…”

The Solution = Love Before we get to I Cor. 13- the love chapter. We define love as building people up. Knowledge puffs up (thinking I’m better than others) but love builds up. Not everybody gets it… V. 7.

The Solution = Love Don’t be a stumbling block… V. 9. I Cor. 10:23-31. Eating at the temple was associated with prostitution. Always linked or implied. Don’t cause others to stumble. It’s not about your rights but about building up other people, vs. 24 & 33.

The Solution = Love Don’t be a stumbling block… V. 9. You are wounding someone Christ died for! V. 11. Causing others to stumble is a sin against them and against Christ. In verse 13, Paul pledges to love enough and therefore never do what would cause someone else to stumble. Will you?
