The Eatwell Game © Livestock & Meat Commission for Northern Ireland 2016

Task 1 Select a food card at random. List the different components of the dish on your food card. Using the blank Eatwell Guide, match the components of the dish to their food group. Extension: Consider the following: How balanced is the meal? What could be added and/or swapped to improve the balance of the meal? © Livestock & Meat Commission for Northern Ireland 2016

Task 2 Split into groups of three. Your teacher will give each group one breakfast, one lunch, and one main meal card. In your groups, list the different components of the three dishes and fill in the blank Eatwell Guide with the different food groups you can see. Extension: Considering the three meals as a whole throughout the day: How does this fit with the Eatwell Guide? Is the diet throughout the day balanced? What could be added and/or swapped to improve the balance of the meals over the day? © Livestock & Meat Commission for Northern Ireland 2016

Task 3 Plan a menu for a day. The menu must reflect the healthy eating guidelines and the proportions of the food groups in the Eatwell Guide. You will need to justify your choices. Select one of the main dishes to prepare and cook. Use a nutritional analysis programme to analyse the nutritional value of the dish. © Livestock & Meat Commission for Northern Ireland 2016
