The Thorny Devil
Inherited Characteristics It is covered in scales and spikes. It is brown, yellow and orange to blend into the sand. The spikes protect the Thorny Devil and make it hard for predators to eat it.
Special Features It has a spiky tail to protect it. It uses it’s tongue to lap up red ants. It eats 1,000 ants per day. It has a spiky tail to protect it.
Where does it live? Australia Desert and outback
It can squirt up to 10 feet!! If the Thorny Devil feels uncomfortable, it will squirt blood out of it’s eyes to distract the predator.
The Thorny Devil can collect water off of any body part The Thorny Devil can collect water off of any body part. It collects between the spikes and drops into it’s mouth. It hibernates until rain falls.
Interesting Facts It walks with it’s tail up. It changes color. In the warmer weather, it changes to lighter colors. In the cooler weather, it changes to darker colors.
