Problem: NOAA wants to hire you. Salmon fishermen are having problems with bycatch (the unwanted marine creatures caught while fishing for a different species). The fishermen aren’t catching birds, because they’re using nets instead of longlines with bait, but they are catching juvenile salmon, mackerel, sardines, and other small fish. Often, these small fish die before the fishermen can throw them back in the water. They’ve asked you to help them design a solution to this bycatch problem.
