Transport in Plants Chapter 14
Transport in Plants Plants need to carry water and minerals from the roots to the leaves. Plants need to carry food from the leaves (photosynthesis) all around the plant.
Transport in Plants
Transpiration Transpiration is the loss of water vapour from the leaves of a plant. The Transpiration stream is the flow of water from roots to stem to leaves.
Transport in Plants
Functions of Transpiration To carry water to leaves. Why? To carry minerals up from roots. To cool the plant by evaporation.
Stomata Water is lost in the leaf through the stomata on the underside of the leaf.
Xylem Water and minerals are carried up the plant in vessels called xylem.
Phloem Food and nutrients are carried throughout the plant in vessels called phloem.
