Rates (unit Rate) Ratio Solving Proportion Rates (unit Rate) Ratio Solving

Rate and Ratios Rate - fraction comparing 2 things Slope Miles per hour Unit Rate is when you compare to one Dollars per hour Ratio – comparing two similar things Both measurements cm to inches You can have decimals in these types of fractions

Scale Factor This is a type of ratio What you are multiplying something by Scale on a map Models of things are a fraction of the original

Proportion Setting one ratio equal to another to find lengths of missing sides One of the ratios could be the scale factor Can be set up multiple ways, need to make sure both ratios are set up similar

Solving Proportions This is where we use cross multiplication over the equals sign Multiply Numerator of left ratio and denominator of right ratio = Multiply numerator of right ratio and denominator of left ration Then solve the equation There are other steps and short cuts but this is the basic set up to solve proportions

Example Basic Multi Step Equations
