How did Henry VIII change the Church? Before Henry VIII England was Catholic. Henry wanted a divorce so he set up the Church of England. After that England was a Protestant country. This is WAY too simplistic!

How far he changed religious practice and doctrine is more complicated. Before Henry VIII England was Catholic. Henry wanted a divorce so he set up the Church of England. After that England was a Protestant country.

Timeline homework Before your next lesson you need to look at the key events in the English reformation On one half of the timeline, note down any changes that increased Protestant strength and influence. Underneath the details of the changes, briefly note down why Henry made them. E.g. influence someone, Henry’s personal situation etc. On the other half of the timeline, note down any changes that make the Church less Protestant, or signal a return to traditional religion.
