PLC utomatic Meter Reading System (AMR) Via Low Voltage Power Line Carrier (PLC) Networks A INTRODUCTION

5 1. Overview - Automatic Meter Reading(AMR) System 1.1 Introduction Automatic Meter Reading ( AMR) System via Power Line Carrier: Power line carrier communications take place over the same lines that deliver electricity. This technique involves injecting a high frequency AC carrier onto the power line and modulating this carrier with data originating from the remote meter or central station. Power line carrier techniques Nowadays become a successfully system by a few companies worldwide, In 1998, Florida Electric Co., initiated 212,000 point PLC-based AMR system successfully with big saving and increasing the customer's services without any additional coast. AMR System via PLC becomes a unique solution for utilities worldwide not only because it saving a lot, but also it is managing the bad debit, Theft, power control,etc.. With no extra cost for communication Infrastructure by using the utility existing own network as communication media which making the PLCs AMR more better than other AMR solution as IR,RF and GSM/PSTN or wireless.
