1st Pre-scoping Document 1st Steering Committee Meeting for the Continental, Pannonian, Steppic and Black Sea Region 5.3.2014, Brussels Marita Arvela

In this presentation: Data and methods used for analysis Results – aiming to aid the selection of habitats and/or species Other supporting elements Page numbers refer to the 1st pre-scoping document 29/11/2018

Natura 2000 sites across the Continental, Pannonian, Steppic and Black Sea region (excl. Croatia) 29/11/2018

DATA & METHOD USED Art 17 data of 2001-2006 (Member States’ data) for CON & PAN Excluding species listed in Annex V only & species and habitats occurring only in one MS Bulgaria and Romania considered ‘unknown’ in CON & PAN Occurrence in BLS and STE are indicated (‘ticked’) in the list of species/habitats of CON & PAN regions No birds data in the analysis, but birds are part of the Seminars! Clustering of habitat types and species Largely similar way as for the Boreal, Atlantic and Alpine Seminar. For MAC/MED analysis MAES typology was followed some habitat types & species may appear in 2 different habitat groups 29/11/2018

Proposed habitat groups Mires & bogs Heaths & scrubs Grasslands Forests Rivers & lakes Sparsely vegetated land Coastal Marine 29/11/2018

How the results were calculated? Calculations are made for CON and PAN separately 1. Criteria for prioritization: Number of Member State where species/habitat types are present (criterion A) Species and habitat types at unfavourable/unknown conservation status (criterion B) Negative trend using certain parameters (criterion C) 2. Filtering species and habitat types: - priority index calculated using A*(B + C) for each species and habitat type 29/11/2018

Test to use weighting (tested for the Pilot Boreal Seminar) Tested for conclusions of unfavourable conservation status (criterion B) & trend information (criterion C) No major changes in results, but potential constraints detected 29/11/2018

RESULTS For you to decide what to do: Top habitat types of the CON (20) and PAN (22) region (page 20 & 22) Some habitat types share the same score Ranking of 7 habitat groups for CON and 6 for PAN region List of all species & habitats per habitat groups in CON and PAN region (See Appendix 1 & 2) & species/habitats occurring in Bulgaria/Romania (if Steppic/Black Sea Region is dealt separately) 29/11/2018

Ranking of habitat groups (page 19 & 21) Continental region Pannonian region 29/11/2018

Top 20 habitat types of the CON region 29/11/2018

29/11/2018

Top 22 habitat types of the PAN region 29/11/2018

29/11/2018

OTHER SUPPORTING ELEMENTS Positive trend Conservation status of habitat types and species per habitat group in CON and PAN (page 12-13) you can compare conservation status between habitat groups and between biogeographical regions Coverage of Natura 2000 network for the habitat types and species (in 2nd pre-scoping document?) 29/11/2018
