Divide yourselves into 4 groups according to your date of birth. Where you born in Spring, Summer, Autumn or in Winter?

What’s in the syllabus? Year 1 – What they should already know.

Activity 1 – Our Names Everyone in the group write your name in each box – a. Use capital letter for your first letter in your name. b. Use small letters for all the other letters. Put them in front of you on the table. What questions can you elicit from students when using such activity? Longest Name/Shortest name Which names have equal number of letters? Which names start/end with the same letter. Put them in alphabetical order. How many vowels and consonants. What is the difference in letters between the shortest and the longest name? Roving reporter - - sorting of capital and small letters - sorting of consonants and vowels - sorting letters with straight lines only and letters with curved lines – include sets

ROVING REPORTER Activity 1b – Our Names Now cut each letter individually and put them altogether. Sort them out into 2 different groups and explain how you sorted them out. ROVING REPORTER Roving reporter - - sorting of capital and small letters - sorting of consonants and vowels - sorting letters with straight lines only and letters with curved lines – include sets

Roving reporter A Roving Reporter is a member of a team who roams around the room seeking ideas and help from other groups. The reporter has to give the ideas posed by all the groups to the whole class.

Activity 1c – Our Names Elicit small words from all the names of the group. Use lollipop sticks to help you keep count the number of words.
