Learning outcomes Success criteria Understand the role of chromosomes in inheritance. State how many chromosomes there are in a human cell. Explain what is meant by an “inherited trait”. Name three examples of an inherited trait. Classify a characteristic as inherited or not. Name the molecule that is responsible for controlling inherited characteristics. Use a punnet square to predict the inherited characteristics of offspring, including the ratio of one characteristic to another. Describe the difference in the genetic make-up of males and females in terms of X and Y chromosomes. Identify if a person is male or female from a diagram of the chromosomes they have inherited.
