Purpose Develop consistency up and down the state Provide resources for all officials to build their skills and provide a quality service to the sport Update cif and nfhs information pertaining tot the sport All returning and nominees for the state meet must attend one of the clinics

Skin checks How did it go last year? Is the process of checking wrestlers becoming engrained into the coaches- athletes-officials? Do you think this is creating a safer environment?

Skin checks Refer to 2017-18 power point for skin condition examples on cwoa.ca website

Skin conditions Educate the parents, wrestlers and coaches Recognition of skin issues How to prevent them from spreading How to treat them when they occur.

Prevention Clean wrestling mats with solution 1:100 bleach and water or appropriate commercial cleaner (be careful on choice or product) Using mop that has been properly cleaned, (use of spray and drag swiffer type mop is very effective) Proper ventilation in the room, avoiding heat and humidity-before and after practice Clean all workout gear after each practice , including towels, clothing headgear, shoes, knee pads etc. Require each wrestler to shower using soap after each practice. Do not share bars of soap Refrain from sharing razors, deodorant or any other hygiene supplies

Best Practices Clean mats before and after practice Check each wrestler before and after practice for any lesions etc. Open the room for ventilation before and after practice Babywipes after each match in a tournament or dual Possible continual mat cleanliness One bucket with cleaner solution One bucket with dry towel All wrestlers/officials/coaches step in before coming onto mat surface

Officials proper grooming and skin checks Mandated 1. every dual and tournament all athletes need to be skin checked from the Pre-Match weigh in form 2.you need to sign the bottom of the form verifying you did the skin check. 3. No hand written wrestlers names on the form 4. No form=no wrestling

Skin checks procedures regarding genders @ Duals and tournaments Only boys, male officials=full skin check Only girls, Female officials=full skin check Only girls, male official=Singlet straps up Boys and girls, male or female official=singlet straps up

1. There must be a doctor signature or stamp verifying it is not contagious and must mark where the non contagious condition is. 2. There must be a doctor signature or stamp verifying it is contagious and when it is no longer contagious. The doctor must mark on the pictogram where the skin lesion is. This is the only CIF allowable form when there is a potential contagious/non-contagious skin condition

Recruit-train-mentor-protect-retain new officials Critical mass of no new officials coming into all realms of officiating- nationwide Recruit-stats show that 80% of new officials were asked by another official or coach to join the ranks Train and Mentor: rules, mechanics and pair up with a veteran official Protect: Do not allow coaches and fans badger, berate etc. new officials Retain: keep them interested, challenge them when ready, build the comradery Coaches and officials are no that much different they want to help kids, they love the sport and want to give back to the sport.

Recruit-train-mentor-protect-retain new officials Observations: We cannot allow new officials to continually make mistakes. If they are not corrected they will think this is the correct call. Send a veteran to all non varsity tournaments to help the young officials and correct their mistakes and protect them Build the advance tools quicker such as recognizing stalling and then call it. STALLING IS YOUR FRIEND
