KIDS AT HOPE HERNDON FAMILY FUN NIGHT BOOKMARK & DESIGN CONTEST Contact information: Claudia Thomas Region 1 Family Engagement Representative Fairfax County Public Schools cethomas1@fcps.edu Family Fun Night is an event that takes place twice per year in the Fall and Spring. It is an opportunity for the entire community to rally around its children and families in the shared belief that all children and youth are capable of success, no exceptions! There is swimming, arts & crafts, a DJ, games, prizes, preschool activities, food and more! This is our community-wide engagement strategy! The schools have an opportunity to showcase student and staff talent! We have had the opportunity to showcase the Herndon High School drumline, step team, Color guard, Dranesville ES’s Dancing Dragons, named after their mascot, Zumba led by a principal, Herndon Middle Schools junior step-team and a whole lot more! This event has been hosted by our loyal partners the Herndon Community Center and their wonderful staff for the past 10 years! None of this would be possible without our amazing Kids at Hope partners and practitioners! We have an amazing turn out of volunteers made up of the school staff, Neighborhood & Community Services, Cornerstones, The Reston Teen Center, Family & School Partnerships, Hopkins House and many more! In addition to this, the community and schools hold an annual bookmark contest that takes place in February at the Spring Family Fun Night. The elementary schools and middle schools participate in creating bookmarks based on themes. This year our theme was “ WE ARE HERNDON”. The High School also participates with an annual Design Contest. Voting takes place at the high school and then a winner is chosen. The winning design is then used as the next years theme for all materials printed for Kids at Hope purposes. WE ARE A COMMUNITY AT HOPE! We BELIEVE, WE CONNECT, and WE TIME TRAVEL with our children, youth and families! We believe that all people are capable of success, no exceptions!
