DRAMA Academic Vocabulary

1. Stage directions A playwright's directions to actors about dialogue, setting, and actions; usually in [brackets] or (parenthesis)

Mutters to herself.) It's probably just a squirrel or something. Monster: (Growling moves closer to girl and gets a little louder.) Grrrrr…. Girl: (Tells herself) A squirrel that growls? I don't think so! (Gets up and walks fast.) Monster: (Follows close behind breathing loudly.) Girl: (Breathes hard and runs racing through the trees.) I’m outta here! [A break in the path appears. The girl stops to catch her breath.] Monster: (Lunges and grabs girl.) Girl: (Screams.) Noooooo! Where are the STAGE DIRECTIONS? How do you know?
