بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Al-Najah National University Engineering College Civil Engineering Department Analysis Of Nazlat Issa village Water Distribution Network & Design Wastewater Network And Treatment Plant Prepared by: Mahmoud Abo- Alshwareb Waseem Khalf Ayaa hisham Obeeis supervisor: Abdel Fattah Hassan.PHD Spring, 2011

Introduction Water is the main source that all aspects of life depend on it. The Palestinian society is suffering from lake available resources in addition the Israel politics in water resource. So our project stand up to study water distribution network of Nazlet Issa , design wastewater collection and treatment plant.

Purpose of the project In this project:- Analysis of Nazlet-Issa water network, and Redesigning of new water distribution system Design a new wastewater collection system Design wastewater treatment plant system.

background The water network in the village is not adequate because the leakage is high. The network needs improvements such as add new pipes to reach the new building to adequate increasing of current population and in future. Theirs no waste water network in the village that causes Pollution of the ground water& The rainfall causes damage to roads. Design wastewater treatment plant system for healthy village

Study area Nazlet-Issa Village. Population (2010): 2450 capita. Number of houses in 2010: 420 unit. Total area of village is 4200 donums . Roads Length is 9 km.

Population The value of growth rate we calculate by division the village into three region. To estimate the growth rate equal 1.9and using equation PF= Po (1+i)n

Water distribution network description

Water distribution network description

Input data Pipes diameters in exist network are 2,3,4,6 inch. Water consumption is 120 letter per capita per day . We use family rate equal 6 person(Questionnaire) Design the network on future and maximum, minimum hourly ,daily factor node # #house Population 2010 demand(m3/h) Population 2040 Demand (m3/h) 2 6 36 0.18 64 0.32 3 7 42 0.21 74 0.37 4 33 198 1 348 1.74

Water distribution network

Results Diameters are acceptable Pressure head are acceptable ,range(16-60)m Velocity in pipes are acceptable and the minimum velocity equal zero because the daily demand few and this network are design more than 2450 number of population, maximum velocity equal 0.42m/s in future .

Pressure zone from d plot program Y (m) P (m) X (m)

Recommendation The network good service for people We advice do not use the water network for agriculture beause it need high pressure that cause corrosion for pipes.

Wastewater collection description Nazlet Issa village has no wastewater collection so, there is a need to design it. Design Criteria: Age of the network 30 years. Waste water production is 85%of water consumption(100 letter per capita per day) The distance between manholes is 50 m. The velocity limits are in the range of (0.6-3)m/s. Minimum pipe diameter 8 inch.

Result after we design the network by hand calculation we get the following result: The pipes diameter used in the network 8,10 and 12 inch and the material of it is ( UPVC).. 2. The number of manholes used in network is 172, and the material of it is concrete .

Table of pipe diameters Result con…….. Table of pipe diameters Length Pipe diameter 4902 8 in (200 mm) 2445 10in(250 mm) 647 12in(300 mm)

Result con ….. In the next two slides we show in first the map of wastewater collection system and in the second a profile take from section in the network

Conclusion and Recommendation In the design we depend on gravity to transport the wastewater and we didn't need any pump . In some pipes the velocity is small than 0.6 m/s because this pipes is sub pipe and there is a little flow income to it. We add 5% of the flow to cover the infiltration to the network After the completion of the design process we ensure the safety of the design and see that the network meets the needs of citizens during the design period .

Wastewater treatment plant description Design the wastewater treatment plant for healthy village to allow human and industrial effluents to be disposed of without danger to human health &to the natural environment Design criteria of wastewater treatment plant : 15 years. Temperature range 16and 17 Co Waste water production is 85%of water consumption(100 letter per capita per day) BOD 50gramm per capita per day.

Wastewater treatment plant description continuo……… Wastewater Treatment its contain three main areas: Preliminary treatment Physical process Remove/grind “big things”, grit Primary treatment Remove non homogenizable solids and homogenize the remainder Secondary treatment Biological process Removes BOD

Figure(2) show the typical process of waste water treatment plant

Result Preliminary treatment include: Screen Screen dimension: height equal 1m, the width equal.15 m, number of opening,( n)equal 8 efficiency equal 53% headloss of the rack equal .03m

Figure (3&4)shown coarse &fine screens

the figure (5) shown grit removal Result Continuo……….. 2- grid chamber : Dimensions : Width equal0.8m Depth equal 1.2m &length equal1.7m Each of the two chambers has a size of 0.8m*m1.2 m*1.7 m the figure (5) shown grit removal

Result Continuo……….. Primary Sedimentation(Circular basin design) Circular basin design dimensions: the tank diameter(D) equal 3.5m,the tank side width depth(SWD) equal 3.3m weir length equal 2.6m,so choose two weirs on each side of the perimeter of circular tank =1.3m,1.3m Detention time(to) equal 2.3m overflow rate(VO) equal3.4 m3/m2.d figure(6) shown primary sedimentation tank

Result Continuo……….. Secondary treatment include two stage of Trickling filter first -stage Trickling filter Dimensions : Depth of the filter equal 3m, Diameter of the filter equal9m Choose area of the media(AS)equal 40m2/m3 Efficiency of the filter Temperature 16C equal 70%

Result Continuo……….. second-stage Trickling filter Dimensions : Depth of the filter equal 2m, Diameter of the filter equal9m Choose area of the media(AS)equal 40m2/m3 Efficiency of the filter Temperature 17C equal 55% total Plant BOD Removal Efficiency at 17C equal 91%

Discussion After this effort of collecting data, design &analysis with the design criteria for each unit of wastewater treatment plant The quality of treated wastewater compared to Palestinian standard is accepted . so if we treat waste water in high efficiency and with acceptable standards we can cover our future need from water.

Conclusions& Recommendations: the Palestinian society is suffering from lake available resources in addition the Israel politics in water resource .so we have make use of treated waste water to cover our need. This amount of treated wastewater can use for irrigation so small farmers often prefer wastewater because its high nutrient content reduces or even eliminates the need for expensive chemical fertilizers. The wastewater treatment plant has benefits in our life& environment
