J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 1. Department has identified the scholar that they want to bring to Temple University as a J-1 Exchange Visitor
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 2. Department sends the scholar to the TU proficiency application web link in DestinyOne https://noncredit.temple.edu/search/publicCourseSear chDetails.do?method=load&courseId=15432947 Through this application, the person will demonstrate that they meet the English proficiency requirement OR they will schedule a time to take the TUTEP.
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process TUTEP Process ON THE DAY OF your Skype interview, please be sure that your microphone and speakers are set properly. Please also ensure you have a strong/good internet connection and are in a quiet place. We will ask that you scan the room with your video camera to ensure that you are ALONE. If you are not alone, we will reschedule your interview. (IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT CHEATING: If you are suspected of cheating, the interview will be suspended. You will need to wait two months to retest.) The interviewer will call/Skype you within 5 minutes of your interview start time. The interview will begin with “identification verification” questions (which will not be rated). Please have the following information ready prior to the start of your interview. Photo Identification in English such as a passport, prior US visa stamp, etc Your "X" Number from DestinyOne The interview will proceed with 2 “warm-up” questions (which will not be rated). The interview will continue with rated questions 1 – 12. You should log back into the DestinyOne system in approximately 3 business days to obtain your score.
If a scholar receives a score of 4. 0 - 6 If a scholar receives a score of 4.0 - 6.0, s/he has passed the test and the process can continue English Proficiency If the person meets the English proficiency requirement or has passed the TUTEP, then ISSS will add the person to your department's portal. If the person fails the TUTEP a hold will be placed on their account and they will not be able to retest
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 3. Department starts the J1 application in the agent portal for the scholar (they are sponsoring this scholar and must kick off this step) and fills out what they need to on their end.
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 4. Scholar finishes the personal information portion of the application
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 5. Once both sides (department and scholar) have completed all required information, either party can press submit and send it to ISSS for next steps.
J-1 Exchange Visitor Application Process Step 6. ISSS reviews the J1 application and returns the application if documents are missing, illegible or otherwise not acceptable. This will open it up for revisions for both the department and scholar. approves the application and then generates the DS-2019 to allow the scholar to come into the country.
H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 1. Department has identified the employee that will need work authorization for Temple University.

H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 2 continued. Through this quick application, the employee will give information about their current VISA status; this critical information will guide the next steps with data collection. After reviewing the Requesting Visa Sponsorship application, ISSS will add the employee to the department's group list.
H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 3. Department starts the H1-B application in the agent portal for the employee (they are sponsoring this employee and must kick off this step) and fills out what they need to on their end.
H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 4. Employee finishes the personal/other information portion of the application
H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 5. Once both sides (department and employee) have completed all required information, either party can press submit and send it to ISSS for next steps.
H-1B Temporary Worker Application Process Step 6. ISSS reviews the H1-B application and returns the application if needed. This will open it up for revisions for both the department and employee OR ISSS approves the application and begins the H1-B petition process.
