2013 County Summary Summary Multnomah 2013 County Summary Summary The total number of drug arrests in Multnomah County rose 67 percent between 2010 and 2013. In Multnomah County, total drug-related deaths (CY 2004-CY 2012) and substance abuse treatment admissions (CY 2006-CY 2012) were higher when compared per capita to the HIDTA counties and Oregon. The largest number of deaths in the county were due to heroin, followed by methamphetamine, and cocaine; the highest number of admissions were due to heroin abuse, followed by marijuana, methamphetamine, controlled prescription drugs, and cocaine. The total number of indoor marijuana plants seized in the county was higher compared to the HIDTA Region and Oregon from 2006 to 2013, with 3,233 plants seized in 2013. The number of outdoor seizures are significantly lower than other counties, dropping 90 percent from 2007 (251) to 2013 (28). The number of medical marijuana cardholders in Multnomah County in October 2013 (9,901) was more than five times the number reported in April 2006 (1,713). County Arrests Return to arrests page After a decline from 2006 to 2010, the number of methamphetamine arrests in Multnomah County rose 147 percent from 2010 to 2013. Additionally, the number of heroin arrests have doubled between 2006 and 2013. Marijuana arrests fluctuated somewhat but remained fairly level between 2006 and 2013, while arrests related to cocaine dropped 75 percent during the same period.

Treatment Admissions Return to treatment page Treatment admissions for heroin, marijuana, and controlled prescription drugs increased between 2004 and 2012, while admissions for cocaine and methamphetamine declined during the same period. Admissions related to controlled prescription drug use showed the highest increase (142%), followed by admissions for marijuana (41%) and heroin (19%).

Drug-Related Deaths, Multnomah County Return to drug related deaths page Deaths from heroin abuse have ranged from a low of 50 in 2006 to a high of 85 in 2011, dropping to 80 fatalities in 2012. Methamphetamine-related deaths fluctuated from a low of 17 in 2007 to a high of 36 in 2011, dropping to 28 deaths in 2012. Cocaine-related fatalities declined 68 percent between 2004 (47) and 2012 (15).

The rise in Multnomah County drug deaths between 2010 and 2012 is largely due to an increase in heroin fatalities.

Indoor Marijuana Return to plant seizures The number of indoor marijuana plants seized in Multnomah County was higher per capita when compared to the HIDTA Region and Oregon from 2007 to 2013. The actual number of indoor plants seized in the county declined 62 percent from 2007 (8,527) to 2013 (3,233).

Clandestine Labs Multnomah County reported methamphetamine laboratory seizures in 2005 (33), 2006 (11), 2007 (3), 2008 (2), 2009 (2), 2010 (7), 2011 (3), 2012 (2), and 2013 (2). The county reported no other clan labs seized between 2005 and 2013.
