Sports Meeting Kimberly Mursch, Athletic Director Welcome! Sports Meeting Kimberly Mursch, Athletic Director
Student Athlete Student comes first! Students are encouraged to stay after school daily to complete required assignments, study for exams, and to work with a teacher. You do not have to be struggling to stay after school for extra help. We encourage all of our students to excel in all of their academic courses!
Should your student athlete become ineligible, this is what you will receive home in the mail, and your child will receive from the High School Main Office during the school day.
Each student will be required to complete the eligibility process for 5 weeks if he/she becomes ineligible.
Advanced Placement Process 1. Only the very highly skilled seventh or eighth grade athletes shall be considered for this program according to one of the following criteria: The athlete has demonstrated unquestionable superiority in competition at the modified level. The highly skilled athlete does not have the opportunity available at the modified level. The athlete’s level of skill is so that he/she will start a majority of the games or play for at least one half of a majority of the games at the JV or Varsity level. 2. It shall be the responsibility of the coach to initiate the request to move a modified student up to JV or Varsity level of competition. After discussing the relative merits of reclassifying an individual student, it shall then be the Athletic Director’s responsibility to determine if testing and screening should proceed. If it is decided that a student should be given the opportunity to be tested, the Athletic Director will seek to obtain parent permission, secure all necessary data, and arrange for fitness testing and medical examination. Under no circumstances should the suggestion to classify an athlete to a higher level of competition be made to a student or to the student’s parent(s) until after the Athletic Director has reviewed the situation. 3. The screening procedure applies only to a student’s eligibility for one sport for a specific sport season. 4. The final evaluation and determination will be made by the Athletic Director after evaluating all pertinent data. ***If your child has not completed the APP, he/she CANNOT tryout for a JV or Varsity sport if he/she is in seventh or eighth grade.
Extracurricular Activity Participation I agree to the following school rules while participating in Extracurricular Activities: To refrain from using or possessing any alcoholic beverages, tobacco or related illegal, counterfeit or performance enhancing drugs at any time on or off school property. To refrain from engaging in conduct unbecoming a Waterville Central School District student. To attend all meetings and activities unless excused by the coach or advisor. To attend school for all periods on the day of a scheduled event, practice, meeting, rehearsal or contest. To accept responsibility for all equipment loaned to me by the school. I further agree to pay for all equipment which I fail to return to the school, or I will not be eligible to participate in any further extracurricular activities until full restitution is received. Not to take, deface, or damage any school property while participating in an extracurricular activity.
Dual Sport Athletes Students wishing to participate in two (2) sports during the same season will obtain and complete a request form from the Athletic Director declaring his/her choice of primary/secondary sport prior to the official beginning of the earliest season. The parent and student will follow the guidelines set by the athletic department involving dual sport participation with final approval provided by the Athletic Director or his/her designee. The District supports students who wish to participate in two (2) sports during one (1) season under the following guidelines: 1. The request must be permitted under the guidelines of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, Section III, and the Center State Conference (Football and Indoor Track are not permitted under the Dual Sport guidelines.) 2. The student must be passing all classes and have satisfactory behavior and attendance. Academic progress will be monitored at the five (5) week mark and each week thereafter. If a student is failing one (1) or more classes at any checkpoint after the five (5) week mark, the secondary sport must be dropped immediately for the remainder of the season. Failure of one (1) or more classes during primary sport participation will adhere to the regular extracurricular eligibility/ineligibility regulations. 3. If each sport is practicing on the same day, the athlete must attend the practice of the primary sport. If each sport has a contest on the same day, the primary sport takes precedence. If there is a contest in the secondary sport and practice in the primary sport, the athlete will participate in the secondary sport contest. ***If your student athlete has signed up to participate in two sports but has not completed the Dual Sport Participation sheet, he/she is not permitted to participate in the second sport until the sheet is submitted to the Athletic Office AND approved by the Athletic Director.
