In your notebook... Compare and contrast the following aspects of Kino to those of the doctor. Physical attributes Possessions Clothing Homes Lifestyles

Chapters 1 & 2 Discussion Questions Write the answers in your notebook, after your Kino/Doctor comparison chart. Kino went to the doctor for help, yet the author writes that Kino could “kill the doctor more easily than he could talk to him” (9). Explain this seeming contradiction. The doctor informs the servant that he has no time to “cure insect bites for little Indians” (11) and that he is not a “veterinary” doctor (11). What new element is added here to his character? After Kino finds the pearl, what happens to Coyotito? A. How do you think this will have a greater impact on the plot? Predict what you think will happen now that Kino has found “The Pearl of the World.”

Chapters 3 Discussion Questions Write the answers in your notebook. What does Kino hope his newfound fortune from the pearl will get him? What are Kino’s fears? What suspicion does Kino have for those around him? How does Juana feel about the pearl? A. How does this differ from Kino’s perspective? What does the pearl dealer offer Kino for the pearl? Why?
