Transdisciplinary Theme: Who We Are Grade: 3 Dates of planner instruction: November – December 2017 KEY CONCEPTS: Perspective: What are the points of view? Connection How is it connected to other things? - Tradition - Celebration - Beliefs - Values An inquiry into beliefs and values WHAT’S HAPPENING… Central Idea Lines of Inquiry Approaches to Learning Related concepts: - Timeless stories and traditions - How stories teach similar lessons across cultures - How stories and Traditions connect people across time and culture - Storytelling and traditions connect people across time and cultures. -Research Skills -Communication Skills -Social Skills Please help your child understand the concepts of beliefs and values. Share with your child the traditions/stories you have continued and why they are important to you.

Success Criteria for This Unit What You Can Do With Your Child at Home Talk about the Learner Profile Attributes and Attitudes Students will strive to be: Important Dates: *Progress Reports Friday 11/10 *Thanksgiving Break: November 22nd – November 24th *No School Monday, November 27th *December District Testing Days Fogle/Trujillo 12/5-12/6 & 12/12-12/13 Tate/Scott 12/7-12/8 & 12/14/12/15 Winter Break 12/22-1/5 School Resumes 1/8 Remember: *Students can not be on school grounds before 7:55 before there is no supervision *Students are more successful when they are at school as much as possible, attendance is important!   - Caring - Communicators - Open-Minded (Learner Profile attributes show who we are on the inside) - Confidence - Respect Tolerance Appreciation (Attitudes are what we show the world through our actions) Students should demonstrate: Success Criteria for This Unit Students will know: What are beliefs, values, and traditions? (values are what is important to you, beliefs are why they are important, and traditions are customs that reflect those beliefs and values) Does everyone have the same beliefs, values, and traditions? (perspective) Have students talk to family and get a story or tradition from their family history to share in class. (We have a template from Hispanic Heritage month) Inquiry into fables:  Students read fables and match them to the lesson they go with and explain. How do stories help people connect to previous and future generations?
