QUESTION Do males or females have better memory?

PURPOSE The purpose of this project is to determine if male or female have better memory. This is good to know because what if you loose your keys? You wouldn’t know who to ask!

HYPOTHESIS We hypothesize that boys have better memory than girls. We believe this because boys want to focus on what is being done more than girls.

PrOcEdUrEs

5 word lists with 15 words on each list mAterials 5 word lists with 15 words on each list Stop watch Elmo 110 pieces of paper 21 pencils

VARIABLES MANIPULATED : Male or female RESPONDING : Number of words correctly recalled CONSTANT : 1. Words in the list 2. Time given to memorize words 3. Time given to recall

Directions 1. Create five different word lists. 2. Distribute blank piece of paper to each student in classroom and have them write male/female on there paper. 3. Place one list on the Elmo. Let the class look at the list for one minute. Remove list 4. Set the timer for three minutes let class individually recall as many words as possible by writing them down on the blank paper.

Directions 5. Collect and count the number of correct words on each paper. 6. Calculate average number correct for boys and girls . Record data on chart. 7. Repeat steps 2-6 for four more trials .

CONCLUSION Our hypothesis is incorrect. Females have better memory than males. The average memory recall for males was 9.27 words. The females average was 9.61words. We learned that females have better memory in recalling words , but what if we did it by recalling math facts?
