Presentation transcript:

FUNdations and Sight Words Academic News Math We count every day! Our first unit of study will be all things shapes! We will discuss 2D and 3D shapes throughout September. Along with positional words and descriptions . Social Studies Our Social Studies lessons focus on classroom and friendship skills over the first two months of school. We learn through play and problem solving. Through this we discuss different feelings and how to manage them appropriately. Readers Workshop This month we will focus on the many different ways to read and take care of books. We will also touch on the different types of books; informational, fiction, magazines etc. Students should be looking at books, reading or being read to for 20 minutes each night! They will love the time spent with your or siblings and they will grasp so much knowledge from the experience! FUNdations and Sight Words We will be learning letter names, sounds and formation for the first marking period. Our first letters we focus on are; Tt, Bb, Ff, Nn, Mm, Ii and Uu. We will master 2-3 letters a week by practicing in a variety of ways. Sight words are words that we can read in a snap! They are words our students see and use frequently in text. September’s words are; I, a, me, to, can, see. Please use the flashcards to practice regularly at home. More sight words will be sent home each month to be added to the previous months’ word set. Writers Workshop We will begin by focusing on oral language and the parts of telling a story. Students will practice being active listeners and speakers. They will be asked to share stories about things they have done or know about. Help me help your child from getting stumped by sharing events and experiences they have had (bike rides, trips, back yard play, fishing, hunting, camping etc.) by sending me an email, text or note to keep handy when they cannot think of any storied to tell.
