What is a clinical nurse Specialist?

What is a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)? Providing a service to all patients with CLL Telephone and face to face support Key worker –central point of contact Liase with the multidisciplinary team Point of contact for GP Education of staff and patients Signpost to help , benefits, other agencies Assess needs and make care plans Improve efficiencies and help prevent hospital admissions Telephone clinic –run by Lianne Assessing side effects and new symptoms Help finding travel insurance Making/amending appointments Drive new initiatives Listen and be there!

Case study ‘John’ 70 year old man Diagnosed with CLL and colorectal cancer in same year Had surgery – stoma fitted Not recovered very fatigued Arranged admission for urgent transfusion Offered support and advice over phone Stoma surgery delayed-new blood disorder Central point of contact for all teams involved
