WELCOME TO THE BORGEN PROJECT! You are one of the 7% of applicants who apply that are hired. Make the most of your internship!

How We Operate ADVOCATE:  We lobby U.S. Congress to secure support for poverty-reduction legislation MOBILIZE:  We mobilize people behind efforts that make global poverty a political priority EDUCATE:  We teach basic advocacy skills that allow citizens to communicate with U.S. Congressional leaders ISSUE MESSAGE:  We build awareness about global issues and innovations in poverty- reduction through our online and community presence

2017 Successes The READ Act was enacted into law in 2017 61,000 emails to Congress Volunteers in more than 750 U.S. cities vs 520 in 2016 Web Traffic is WAY UP! 2017 goal was 2.8 million visitors to borgenproject.org 2017 actual visitors: 3.4 million!

Congressional Meetings You will be meeting with your: Representative’s Office 2 Senators Offices Kai with Senator Casey – Philadelphia, PA

Congressional Meetings Go to your Senator’s or Representative’s website and fill out a request for meeting (which tends to be under the “Contact” section of their page). Keep following up and be politely persistent. Look out for events they may be attending (Bird-dogging opportunities) Keep the pressure coming into their offices weekly!

Fundraising cont’d… Don’t worry we are here to help! Review the Financials (Helpful for answering questions that friends and family may have) Successful fundraising starts with the ASK Use your resources (local restaurants, community or college groups) Utilize your 25 hours we have given you to put towards fundraising (roughly 1.5 hrs./week)

Reminders: Trackers must be turned in no later than Friday at 5:00 p.m. (PST) Keep your trackers detailed but concise (i.e. include screen shots, pictures, etc.) No more than 2 late or missing trackers Emailing Congressional Leaders through our Website Do not hesitate to email me with questions or request to set up a time to speak over the phone!
