Facts about New York Their currency is US dollars The population is 8.4 million The climate is extremely hot in summer (up to 40C) and extremely cold in winter (down to -20c) It is a very multi-cultural city with people from all of the world represented.

We visited 2 schools Elementary- 216 students ages 5-7 year olds Middle - 330 students ages 11-14 year olds Both schools we are a inner city area called Harlem which served Harlem and Bronx children

Most children lived in high rise flats with little outdoor space Most children lived in high rise flats with little outdoor space. However, the area was close to all of the fantastic places New York has to offer.

Democracy Prep had to share the building with to other schools meaning that they were not allowed onto the yard to play. Children had to stay indoors from 7.45-4pm!!!
