What did priests do? Mass on Sunday Weddings and baptisms Talk to villagers about their problems Bury the dead Heal the sick Teach reading and writing Collect tithes Keep all village records

Sacraments (Christian Rites) Baptism (youth) Marriage (midlife) Eucharist (Communion) Last Rites (death) These “rites” made the church a crucial part of peoples lives from birth to death. Only the powerful clergy could give “rites” These “rites” were necessary to get into God’s good graces and salvation (go to heaven).
