Mandatory Grade 2 Retention Criteria l Students who are EO/IFEP/RFEP/ELD 5 l Reading score of 1 and language arts performance assignment score of 1 l Students who are English Language Learners (ELL) performing at ELD levels 1 or 2 for 3 or more years (ELD portfolio documentation) l Students who are ELL with waivers, in a Basic or Dual Language Program l Reading score of 1 and Spanish language arts performance assignment score of 1 l Students with disabilities expected to meet grade level standards - IEP team makes the decision to promote or retain.

Mandatory Grade 8 Retention Criteria l Students who receive a grade of FAIL in English 8B or Advanced ESL 3 / 4 and a performance assignment score of 1 l Students who remain in ESL 1B after 3 or more years l Students with disabilities expected to meet grade level standards, as indicated on the IEP. The IEP team determines promotion or retention.

Standards-based Promotion Timeline l 1 st Month- Parent Notification of SBP Policy l Mid-point 1 st reporting period-I.D. students at-risk l Letter to parent l Establish intervention program l Establish red folders l Teachers document on SBP Log l Mid-year- I.D. potential retainees and refer to SST for modifications l Warning indicated on report card l Feb. thru May - Administer performance assign./ELD Portfolio l 2 weeks before end of school -Notification of mandatory summer school/intersession (final intersession for all tracks; must re- administer the performance assignment)

Mandatory Standards-based Promotion Summer School/Intersession Final Intersession (90 hrs elem.;120 sec.) 20:1 class size Students meeting retention criteria and Current 2 nd grade IAS students will continue with Open Court Pacing Plan l Track B-C6 March 5 –May 1; 90/30 April 2 – May 11 l Track C – C6 May 2 – June 29; 90/30 Feb. 14 – March 30 l Track D – 90/30 May 14 – June 29 l Mid-term and final report card l Re-administer performance assignment l Final notification sent home at the end (for C6 Track C and 90/30 Track D intersession only; C6 track B & 90/30 tracks B and C send notices 2 weeks before end of school year, as the classroom teacher makes final decision) certified mail l Notification of Appeal Process l *Note that Track A will be in school year, July 9 – August 17

Scenarios l Can a student who has a 1 in reading and a 2 on the performance assignment be retained? No l Can a student who has a FAIL in English 8B but has not received the performance assignment be retained? NO, administer the performance assignment as a make-up. l Can the student success team recommend that a student who doesnt meet the criteria be placed in the IAS class? No l Can we backfill throughout the year? No l Can a student be retained if they do not attend mandatory summer school? Yes l Can students be retained at other grade levels? Yes, with parent approval. Use old forms.

Intensive Academic Support Classes l 10:1 student to teacher ratio l Posted prior to the posting of the regular matrix, by track, with qualification and whether class will generate a differential l Present IAS teachers with the proper credentials will be given first priority l $1000 IMA l Must receive all other materials and equipment of a regular classroom from school budget. Must be included in 2 nd grade and English department meetings. l Participation in all school programs, assemblies, and articulation/promotion activities. *Please note that the secondary IAS agreement is being negotiated.

Summer School/Intersession

Summer School/Intersession l July 9, 2001 thru August 17, 2001 l Intersession dates are during off-track periods l 120 hours of instruction l 4 hours a day for 6 weeks l 20:1 elementary & 33:1 secondary l Remedial & Enrichment for secondary l ELL students will receive the English Language and Intensive Literacy Program (ELILP)

Elementary Eligibility for Summer School/Intersession l Students (including waiver-to-basic) in grades 2 – 5 who: l Received a reading score of 1 or 2 l Received a performance assignment score of 1 or 2 l Students who are English Language Learners (ELL) not making adequate progress in English Language Development (ELD), same ELD level for 1+years or are not meeting redesignation criteria (ELILP Grant)

Middle School Eligibility for Summer School/Intersession l Student who reside in the boundaries l Grades 6, 7, and 8 students who qualify for the remedial program l Grades 6, 7 and 8 th grade non-graduates are eligible for the core academic program l Eighth grade graduates (June 2001) may enroll in senior high summer school

High School Eligibility for Summer School/Intersession l Students who reside in the boundaries l Grades 9 – 12 Remedial Proficiency Program l Grade 11 & 12 to fulfill graduation requirements l Grades 9 – 12 Core Academic Program l 8th grade graduates (June 2001) are eligible
